Becoming A Monk
Last Sunday I accompanied my wife to a special event, her friend's son was going to be ordained as a monk at Wat Noi Nai, Taling Chan, Bangkok. This is still considered very important for most Thais as it is seen as a serious way of making merit, even if it's only for a few days. We arrived late in the morning and while my wife automatically participated in whatever was required of her, I took the opportunity to start shooting. As there was a whole video and photographer team

Bangkok's Nature Reserve
Benjakitti Park opened in 2004 on the Tobacco Authority of Thailand's land and consisted mainly of a huge rectangular lake with a few strips of nature on the sides, nice but not particularly outstanding. Of course any attempt to make Bangkok more 'green' is welcome and my few walks there were kind of OKish. In 2016 a formal decision was made to extend the park as the Tobacco Authority would move out completely. When I dropped by a few years ago to have a look I was completely

Wat Khao Tham Thiam
Last Saturday my wife suddenly suggested that we should visit her sister and husband's new house in Kamphaeng Saen. A few hours later we were all together on a road trip to U Thong, these things happen just spontaneously! We ended up at a place I'd never been before; Wat Khao Tham Thiam. Apparently, the place dates back to the Dvaravati Period and has some historical artifacts, but we just wandered around the giant Buddha. Donations are always welcome, it's perceived as just

Trippin' The Light Fantastic
The final Bangkok Photographers Walk of 2021 started at Siam Square, focusing on all the lights... A Christmas tree made out of plastic thingies under a kind of recycling theme. At Siam Paragon no lack of bright lights! Despite the heading - Togetherness Is Magic - these two looked rather bored... A motocy taxi guy checking his mobile, perhaps for a ride or social media update? Kids usually have a great time with all the bright colored lights. Time for a ciggie! Not much traf

Walkabout 2022 second part
Continuing the walk past a church, a Chinese shrine, a mosque, and 2 temples... Above is a side path leading to the old Kuan An Keng Shrine. Banana view on Santa Cruz Church. Some more Christian influences. Plenty of old wooden houses in this area. Inside Kuan An Keng Shrine, I took this photo from a distance, but still a bit embarrassing as only afterwards I noticed the 'don't take photos' sign... Even in ancient shrines you can't escape this... Impressive woodworks at Kuan

Walkabout 2022
My first walk of the new year, again through the old town, but via a few different routes. A relatively new way of crossing the Chaophraya River is by the Chao Phraya Sky Park bridge. But my trip started really inside minibus 42, I guess the driver must have been very thirsty... Opposite Sam Yot MRT Station. Obviously we're close to Chinatown here. Some offerings at a shrine. Wires & lights... Kind of mirror selfie? Bird incoming! Lots of scaffolding around Sao Chingcha. Gian
