Back In The Low Countries: Culemborg

Exploring the countryside, old historic places and Kringloops (popular Dutch 2nd hand stores), either with a family member or on my own is a great way to spend holidays, at least according to me of course.

This time my sister and I ended up in the ancient city of Culemborg which received city rights in 1318!

Weirdly enough it wasn't part of Holland until the 18th century...

Before that it was somehow part of a fiefdom in the Holy Roman Empire... Never trust those catholics ;-)

As a result there are more than a few churches and plenty of old buildings.

Wall-paintings and graffiti were not popular in the Holy Roman Empire and are of more recent vintage!

Windmill De Hoop dates from 1854 and was made fully functional again in the early nineties.

A bit of nature, this is a Fireweed.

This weird duck wasn't afraid of humans whatsoever, in fact he expected to be fed right away!

Ancient city wall...

More street art.

Sandwiched in between two more standard houses...

We passed a few more mansions, of course with nice gardens.

The Town Hall is located at the old Vis Market.

We hope you liked this episode of my photo blog!
