Music In The Air

Earlier this month, I was pleasantly surprised to see the announcement of a new musical event on the 14th.

Most of the names of the listed performers didn't mean anything to me, except for The Paradise Bangkok Molam International Band, and I was eager to see them.

I quickly contacted both Wilhelmus van N. and the Dishonorable Edward Pastanga, who were both reasonably positive about my proposal, especially after I mentioned that we might have some beers as well.

We met just after 4 on Sukhumvit at an Irish Pub to get into the right mood, whatever that might be.

I arrived last while Wilhelmus and Edward had been discussing world peace over 2 pints of Guinness...

Despite Wilhelmus' horror stories of getting utterly lost inside One Bangkok, we did leave the pub several beers later.

A short walk through a semi-derelict cowboy place brought us to the MRT station, where we got on the underground train to the latest luxury department store that the capital had to offer...

We exited at Lumpini Station and found our way to the main stage inside One Bangkok without any hassles.

VENN had already started playing, a kind of alternative folk with the female trumpet player adding a nice twist, cool!

At first, I thought I was the oldest visitor around, but later I noticed a few other dinosaurs stumbling around...

After they finished, we wandered around a bit and ended up backstage where Jambox was playing.

Not really a band, but a live jam session of various artists, which sounded fun, but unfortunately didn't last long.

Following Jambox was Mindfreakkk, which didn't impress us much, and after a few minutes we left.

Back on the mainstage, The Paradise Bangkok Molam International Band had started playing and didn't disappoint!

The audience reacted overwhelmingly positively as well.

A bit of a gimmick, but the audience loved it, oh well....

After the show, we decided to move to a different place, preferably something smaller, no more crowds!

We ended up at Smalls, where One Man Standing was playing Hendrix and Hancock, sweet.

For one Thelonious Monk track, this lady took over the keyboards, good job!

We ended up in Nana Chinatown for a few more drinks until it was coming out of my ears...

A taxi ride later, I was home early Sunday morning...

It had been quite an evening!
